A jackshaft set-up may be the only solution that may work properly

Jackshaft in the works utilizing deck spindle... if it ever warms up enough I can afford to heat the shop, and I find time to get back after this one, I'll finish it up too!

yes it can be the cheaper way to lower a mower down to race heigth , there are still a lot of thing that you have to do to put in a jackshaft . it isnt a lot easier than putting a live axel in , actually in my opinion it was easier to put the live axel in my FX than the jackshaft in my SP .

another way to do it but not 2-3 inches maybe only 1 inch but depending on the puley u have on the tranny it could have a spacer on one side just flip that pulley around so that the pulley its flat to the tranny case.

if your going to notch your frame why wouldnt you just put in a simple jackshaft system and use the transaxel the way its ment to set ??
seems to me that that would give you one forward gear and a bunch of reverse gears .

If you want to lower the front end, and you have J or L spindles, I would cut off the bottom of the spindle from the shaft (from L to l) and then reweld the bottom of the spindle in the middle of the shaft (so it woudl look like a T) which would lower the front end a few inches.  Maybe you could get away with just lowering the front end.
