v twin cooling with billet wheel
« on: September 04, 2011, 08:42:58 am »
Ok we just got a v twin with the mwsc flywheel and im a lttle concerned about coolin systen is are there tins that are sopposed to go over the cylinders? al engine has is the top plastic cover in place, also the flywheel has fins but being so far down in cover will it keep the engine cool under racing comditioms. On guy I know put a briggs plastic fin assembly on his would this b a better set up and what rpm is this goood for?  Oh the guys that had before said the head them was at 400 deegrees is this to much whats the max should run?

Ferris, you will definately need all the tins on the engine, with all the tins in place the mwsc flywheel will move enough air to cool the engine and everything will be fine. 400 degrees is a little warm for the cylinder head temp, on gas somewhere around 330 would be all you want to see on a lawnmower engine. On alcohol we could only get the temps as high as 180 or so. I wouldn't use the cylinder head temp to tune the engine, you should be reading the exhaust temp somewhere around 1200 would be a good place to start.

The plastic briggs model 28 fin set will work on there as well. It will not come apart. Have had several sets on S/A kohler singles in the 7500rpm range and no problems. Plus it moves a ton of air. Possibly more than the fins on the aluminum flywheel.
