Blowed up real good
« on: August 24, 2011, 07:01:59 am »
The BP finally showed a weak link. Popped the head off of a exhaust valve last weekend in the feature race. Was going for 1st place when it happened. About 3 seconds before I shut it down.

Time for the bigger engine.

I might have raced it a little too hard at Vestaburg. This engine has done real good though. 1 full season with 2 clubs last year and then all of this year along with some USLMRA races and other invitational. I figure it had a few thousand laps on it. Alot of race time on this one.

Bottom end can handle two seasons but valves n springs should be replaced every off season.

Yikes.. bottom end can handle 2 seasons?  Does that mean replace everything or just certain parts?

I have had vanes run 6 seasons on bottom end untouched (not recommended) I run my Indians 2 seasons on bottom end with out touching them then it's bearings bolts and file fit rings heads I rebuild/freshen every year and they all run Wally world synthetic oil with max 2 races before oil change flatties I change after every race

RPM's usually around 6500, but occasionally up to 7000 to 8000. Good to know George. I will be replacing them.

George when you redo your heads are you doing the retainers too or just the valves and springs?

At least I can save the cam and 1 rod/piston. Block didn't get hurt either. Got a week and 1/2 before Ohio to get another engine in it.
