If it isnt an avs the dipstick goes straight into the oil pan.

If it is an AVS engine it will have a steel disc under the oil pan retained by three screws. This is the oil pump cover. The dipstick will normally be yellow and the dipstick tube goes directly into the oil pan.
If you rev this engine above stock RPM in its stock form you are taking a big chance.
If it has blades I'm not interested.

Ok I'm not sure what I have avs or non avs. Slowmow said it's not an avs if the dip stick goes into the pan and bolens says it is an avs if it goes into the oil pan?

I looked at it before I left for work. My dip stick cap is yellow and the black plastic dip stick tube goes straight down with no bends but it goes into the block about 1/4 inch above where the pan seals to the block.

I don't remember seeing a round disc when the motor was out but it is on my mower right now I will pull it off tonight

The plastic shroud does not make it an avs.
The letters AVS on the shroud....does! lol

Personally. Cam, rod, get the crank balanced by huffy044, head work, flywheel and a good race carburetor.

IF you want to be running it quite soon, yes, the billet link will help hold it together. If you are on a tight budget, add the link, and get the flywheel. The flywheel is not only a good bang for the buck performance part, it's also safer. We ran one in that form for almost 2 years when we started. The rest can come later as money allows. Clean up the ports a bit while the head is off wont hurt, and it's free. Just time, and some sandpaper.
Just keep in mind, it can still blow up. Any of them can, even the billet internal ones.

whats the deal with removing the weights off the oil slinger? those little pieces of metal don't weight all that much??? i've been trying to figure that out for a while now, i keep hearing you all talk about doing that.

Yes when a govener is removed from a STOCK motor the higher rpm's will cause valve float and can/will lead to droped valves, I should have taken the time to explain that to you at the race that day and let you make that call.
I did advise to remove the govener after we had a short talk about your mower being slower compared to others and that you would have if you new you could or new how(at that time), I didn't give it much thought becuase there is others in our group that have stock motors with no govener that have run for awhile with no issues.

I should have then and will from now on be carefull on how I help/advise someone new to the sport.

(AND HERE IT COMES)...I posted this becuase of the above and becuase you stated (THAT I  PROMPTLEY TOLD YOU HAD TO REMOVE IT BEFORE THE RACE)
1.The promptley was (from my guess) that we had about 15/20 minutes before the race and had next no way how we were going to get it done.
2.I NEVER SAID (HAD/SHOULD OR ANYTHING LIKE).
I will say that you raced vary well for your first race (clean & safe on the track) and your 1st place score is well earned....

I'm not trying to put blame anywhere and the motor survived so it was well worth the risk. I was just trying to let other guys on here know that I had run it like that. So I hope you didn't take offense by my post. You helped me out a bunch. Like I said. I built my chassis first and have now move on to the motor. I have also already swapped in a 31 non avs and removed the governor weights so I fell better about it now.  Also sorry I ran u over..

Thanks again and if you are racing Saturday I will see u then
