Compression release
« on: November 30, 2006, 11:37:57 pm »
Hey Guys,
I need a little help finding a compression release.
I have the same problem as everyone else when you put a cam in. But I have found that if you drill and tap the head and install a hand valve. That the motor will turn over then you close the valve and she will fire up.
The only problem for me is the heat likes to burn up my hand valve.
So I paid for a motorcycle compression release on E bay. No problem but the guy was out of stock.  He refunded my money no problem. But now I am still with out a compression release. He tells me it will be months before he gets any more in. :woo:
Have any ideas to share?
Thanks 1031

Ok so tell me what kind?

Then you have to buy a new flywheel too.

5oo bucks is still a little high for my blood.

Uhmmm... NO!

And, the guy you're sending us, is big on G-Team already!

http://www.g-team.us/photo_album.htm

Go to the bottom window and scroll to the first set of pictures there!

Oh yeah... be sure and scroll down to the caption below that and check out the results of his G-Team parts as well. And, it wasn't even a close race on the points race!!

Either the high torque Briggs or better the Nip starter will spin a high compression flathead..

And you can use the stock flywheel with them..

Yes I am a BIG time G Team Fan. Don and Rocky have helped me out a lot! :P
Yes I made G teams Pictures.  Never can I say enough about Don's work.
He has really gone out of his way to help me when I was down.  Many Thanks again to G team! ;)

But get back to the question. All I want is a compression release.
It will help me start and would also work as a brake. Ever heard of a Jake Brake?

They were used a lot on flat tracker motorcycles. Now a days you can find them for Harley's too but I was not wanting to pay that much.
Call me a tight wad if you want.
They come with a cable and a lever like a motorcycle has to mount it where you need it.
I just need another location to find one.
Thanks

Squid,
Can you give part numbers?
now that may be an option. if I can keep the stock flywheel.
I better check with Don on that then.
I did not know you could still keep the stock flywheel.
Thanks guys for all the input so far.

Don has them listed on his site..http://www.g-team.us/briggs_28cid.htm (bottom of page)

But not the part numbers...I know they are on the board here somewhere...

We can both try the search feature...and if we find them post them here...

Thanks For the Info.
I always heard that you needed a high torque starter BUT you needed the flywheel too.

Learning more things all the time.
Thanks again.
