Vertical flathead kohler
« on: June 15, 2011, 02:44:47 pm »
Hey guys. Starting a new build and I'm new to the world of kohlers. I'm looking for a a flat head (as per local pull rules) that is a 15 or 16 hp. Starting in a stock class but would like a motor that has a decent amount of aftermarket upgrades/ room to grow to move into altered stock class. Thanks for your opinions. Anythings a help!

You will want a horizontal shaft engine if you plan on running stock altered.

Opposed twin briggs. 16hp 42cid version. If the class rules require a flathead twin. Rods, pistons, cams, and valvetrain parts are availible. Unless you can run a single then use a k series kohler single. Lots of parts availible for those from midwest super cub, vogel manufacturing, lakota.

Here's the problem with the twin, it's not stock appearing as per our rules so it needs to be a single. As far as the Horizontal shaft goes it wouldn't be stock appearing nor can we do frame modification for me to run it. I like to do things a bit different than most so I am going to try it with a twisted belt setup. I'm going to test it in stock class to see how I can do and work from there. Right now my option is a 28 Briggs but it's hard to make up for displacement in stock class, hense the reason for looking at kohler. Do they make such a thing as a verticle flat single in 15 - 16 hp range? Or am I way off and stick with the Briggs? I appreciate your input thus far guys!

I don't think Kohler made a vertical flathead. You can get OHV singles but not a flathead.

I couldn't find anything anywhere so that's why I asked here. Thanks guys. Oh and I didn't mean stock altered I would even be competetive in that we have a Max stock it's between stock and modified. I was reading the wrong one. Thanks again!
