Problems using CRAFSTMAN II front sheet metal
« on: November 30, 2006, 07:42:20 pm »
Here is the problem……..

Side view looks good

but………………….

Looks like this mower will have to be set up for drag racing!
I can’t turn!!!!

The front track width is set at 37” but the lower hood rubs the fenders and will not be able to turn!

Are there any solutions anyone can think of?  I want this mower to be  USLMRA legal so I know modifications to the front sheet metal is out!

I guess this is one of the things that can happen when going from stock height to 4.250” off the ground!

As you can see in the LAWN VERSION of my mower…It sat about 6” higher so clearance was not an issue!

HELP!

With the side panels off I do gain much needed clearance…

But I  still have a slight clearance issue….

I have already moved the front grill forward slightly to gain a little more clearance but still not enough.
Think I can get away with a little trimming?

That thing looks 1201324098234032 times better with the lower shields off!

As for your clearance issues, would you be able to move the grill foward any more or maybe the axle backwards?

For USLMRA the axles need to be on original location (they can be lowered, but not forward or back) wheel base must remain stock length...

Technically the side shields should be in place, but some style craftsman did come with out them, so it would probably not be noticed in tech.

Cutting would be...

Slight (discrete  ;) ) movement may go un-noticed...

(unless of course you post it on the internet and the "everybody" knows what you did...)

Look how much Jason Mikula has cut his lower hood and grille. Trimming that for whell clearance should be no problem they don't say anything about Jason,s and his dad's. Leave the side panels off like it was said some have em some don't, and trim that back bottom corner. Like I said look at Jason and his dad's hood.

anyone have the 06 cutting edge look on the front cover just in front of the front tire you can see where the body work is cut for wheel clearance.

Anyone have links to their mowers?
