A mower is a totally different animal than any race car, been there done it .The beauty of this sport is you don't have to be fastest to have the most fun, once you forget that your probably not suited to be on a mowchine......

I could build the fastest, baddest, and best looking mower as anyone else but I choose not too.
                             fun level + 110%

win factor= sometimes
friend factor= always

The Kohler twin is capable of producing WELL over 100hp with more aftermarket support from Midwest Super Cub and so on then any other v-twin on the market. A machine with that kind of power has to be taken very seriously, I would never let somebody just take it for a ride with any amount of experience. I used to be a drag racer as well, I had a top sportsman fiberglass mustang and this mower is more of a handful then that car ever was. Anyway, with your experience I think you'll figure out the way to go, and how to get there.

Thanks Fordman,

Same as I with my cars or bikes, I wouldn't let anyone drive them as most just do not respect or know just how bad horsepower will hurt you.

I appreciate the advice and it looks like the Kohler is going to be my platform after this season. :3gears:

>Brian....fling a bunch of $100 bills and we'll talk then....I choose not to race in that class because of the cost factor....I choose to stick with the lower classes and have more fun and not have to beg my wife for mower $.....I am not retired with a 401k I can pinch out of so I-MOW class is good to go.

I started four years ago in adult stock. Then the next year a friend had an I-mow and he let me work on it and race it. Then I had the opportunity to buy a Super Sportsman mower the third year of racing. I love i-mow, the best mower race I have been in was an i-mow class at the all american a couple years ago.

I have an awesome running mowchine but i thought you meant cost wasn't a factor so I thought I would ask. Lol.

I know the lil flattys we have cost $1000-1300 to build.

Flywheel                       $350
Rods                            $230
Pistons                         $160ish
Cam                             $250+
Carb                             $275+
Rockers                         $350
Springs retainers             $60

$1,675 in parts alone, and pushrods with prolly be needed if the cam gets the geometry out for the rockers.
Add another $100 for shipping, and that does not include a motor to start with.

On the other hand. I took a stock 16HP Vanguard, added a new intake for $90 and a 2BBL off an Intek for another $40 used.
and $60 for springs and retainers, and had a hot little setup that was very fun. Bud saw that one run. That motor is good
for 5000 RPM's all day long.
So you do all the work, or send it out for $2000-3000 more.

I think some free hp could be gained by retarding the camshaft to shift the torque curve higher in the rpm band.  The profiles are timed to peak at under 3000 with max power ratings at 3600.  Since the ignition timing is tied to the flywheel (crank) position and not cam position you'll keep any ignition advance you give it.  Just some thoughts, any care to chime in?  Sorry for getting off topic kind of, just thinking about how to get more out of an engine with less cash

yes cost is a factor like Marc explained but, when you let that interfear with fun than you lose.
don't get me wrong, going really fast is fun but, going really fast with something that won't handle and is not safe is stupid.Nowadays everyone thinks bigger is better as far as motors are concerned to win...NOT TRUE PERIOD..there are alot more factors envolved . :)

never forget fun and you ALWAYS win.................
