what do you think? (flathead)

In your opinion, which engine builder is getting the most hp out of their flathead engines for Sportsman/SP class.

George Herrin,I drove his championship machine almost 3 years ago and it was a rocket like no other I have seen.
Paul Kreuger, though he doesn't advertise, also builds one heckuva flatty!

It doesnt have to be an official 'engine builder'. It can be a local guy you know that is putting out some ponies.

Thanks Rooster,

While I build my own stuff I don't build them for sale. I do help a select few with my mods. I do offer some of my stuff for sale, but it isn't cheap if it is good.

There are only a couple flattys that have "beat/outrun" me.

Troy Larsons. Which I don't know where it is at anymore. And Rich Webs new SP. Rich's SP is nasty fast and has a ton of power.  Jason Browns sp is crazy fast too but I've never really "raced" him. Lemans starts make it hard to judge who has the fastest mower or most power.

I've done too much research and testing to give my competitors the same engine I run. When I start getting beat I will build a new engine.

Look at the time sheets from last years US nationals. That is my "fast" engine and I didn't squeeze it untill sunday. Look at lap times not results.

Hey Brian, this is DeLaney. Bill MacCammon is building big hp out of a 12 horse.I have never rode another mower that has as much torqe as the 007.It won the all american 2 years ago against all over head valve motors. Not to say there are not other guys out ther building great motors. You ask for local guys. He is as good on flatheads as any big engine shop.In my opinion.thanks

Paul, Troy Larson's was sold to someone in eastern Tennessee, after that I have no idea where it went, or what happened to it. There is still one in Wi. with a "clone" engine to his, but he does not race much, maybe twice a year.

Ok, you guys are saying who but I also want to know why you think it. I mean this respectfully Paul but laps times don’t show ponies. And George said the reason you don't build engines for others is because the one you have was an accident. Lol. I'm just kidding he didn't say that!!

How can anyone honestly answer that question without numbers from a dyno to back it up?

OK, I can answer that....little story I guess.
Scene: 2009 All American Sportsman Heat race
Back ground: I had blown my motor, George put me on the Joe's Small Engines mower.
Started somewhere around 6th I believe, had only 2 laps on track and none on the mower.
Fell back to somewhere around 13th while "feeling" things out.
After 4 laps I decided to get after it, and get after it I did. I know the leader had at least half track on me and there was alot of lapped traffic. In 5 laps I made it back to 6th, passing about 15 mowers to get there! No I am not eggxaggerating, I was passing on average 3 mowers a lap, sometimes 2 in 1 straight.
Lap 9 of the heat race I cam up on a tight group,of 6 or 7 mowers that was duking it out pretty good, I figured most of them were lapped traffic and no reason to stick my nose in that with a lap and a half to go.  I honestly had no idea what position I was in.
Turned out, that group contained 2nd-5th! I could've got some more had I pushed the issue.

I have driven literally every class of mower there is except maybe an AP and the Supers.
The only thing that kicked me in the tail harder than Georges Sportsman...his Super Sportsman!
I have no doubt that little flatty would hang with most the C/P's out there!

I have never driven Paul's S/P...but I have been behind it coming out of a corner on my C/P. I would not call Paul's chassis light...and that Flatty will launch it off a corner.
Lol...I got a shorter version as well...
No you cannot get an absolute definite to the last digit answer to "who builds the most " without a Dyno. But if you have been around racing very long you know what power looks like!

I guess if your not going by the numbers but what you have experienced and or seen... The only fair way to say someone's motor has more ponies then another is to experience and see them all.

That's like saying Georgia's BBQ is the best without going to KC to try theirs... (remember that convo?)

Hitch specializes in flatheads that can snap your head back at a touch of the throttle but I see no mention of it... I have seen and experienced it but would never say it has mores horses until someone showed me the comparisons with the other engines built.
