battery placement..
« on: April 29, 2011, 12:36:02 am »
I've put together a modified twin (horazontal) mower almost just like rceagle1a build but I run a jack shaft.
I do not have any real space to place the battery or gas tank that I feel is safe or ok .I was thinking of running the battery on the left hand side just infront of the l/r tire , I haven't come across anyone needing to do this so I thought I would ask what you guys think of it.
That would fee up the space under/foreward of the seat and just behind the jackshaft to run the gas tank...

Why not put your battery out back between the chassis and bumper and fuel tank on the right side running board since you have 4 inches of width over there more so than the left side??? Easy to fuel and not worry about fuel between your legs and its not going to get smashed into because of the nerf bars

My battery is on the left running board just in front of the fender. The edge of the seat actually goes over it some. (its a gell cell)

We always run our tank on the left side where you can use the weight. We don't normally run a battery, but if we do, it is put where we need the weight. They have been put just behind the leading edge of the hood.

I like the idea of puting the battery behind the seat I'll do that , and put the gas tank under the fenders  infront of the l/r tire ..That sounds like it would work....
Yeah having gas spill out inbetween the legs doesn't sound fun......
Now with the battery that far back should I run a lagrer batt cable? I would think so.

run the largest battery cable that is feasible, #2 cable works real well and is fairly easy to route, also buy the brass ends and solder them on and wrap with heat shrink tubing, this setup will give you a bullet proof starting system!
