Track ? How big is too big?
« on: April 12, 2011, 12:35:41 pm »
Ok guys looking for some input on this. How big of a track is too big for Super Mods? Would 3/8 mile be too long for a Super Mod? I know with a regular build the recommended length is not to exceed around 225 feet I think or some where around that.

We run at a 1/5 mile banked oval and it is almost to big.  You run flat out almost all the way around.  Hard on the engine.  We all geared up to help but now we are running around 60 mph.  Scarry fast for a mower.

What happens on the longer trAcks is the motors sustain the high rpm much much longer thAt iS gonna present many new issues we do not experience on the shorter tracks they can be geared to run on any size. I think for durability and longevity for the motors tracks should be kept down in size 220 ft straights is plenty and short track provide better racing for the spectators too.

Thanks for the comments guys I haven't thought of the impact this would bring upon the engine.

my general rule of thumb is a 700' line in the middle of the track.if you are building a super mod only track your turns are gonna determine that, some guys like big wider corners and a narrow straight ......1/8th is a good starting place then you can always punch the corners out more.I like putting about 5-10 degrees bank in 1 and 3 so the fast guys can get slideways and open up 2 and 4 to get into the straight.
