13HP HF Clone yes or no
« on: April 08, 2011, 12:17:28 pm »
I'm thinking about buying a 13HP HF Clone brand new from the box at harbor freight for $235 shipped to my house with the 20% off super coupon! I have a Honda 13HP on my pull tractor and I love it! And I can't decided if o should buy a clone? I'm gonna use it in either stock class or stock altered class! Which it's prolly the most it can handle with clone crank! I know there are tons of after market parts for them!

Yeah and getting clone replacement parts are cheap!!! But those bad boys are strong! I thin a bone stock Honda Gx390 runs 21 ft/lbs of torque at 3400rpms! But the clone will be a little less but when I soup it up it's all good!

They still sale both the 11 and 13 horse here in wv, i've been wanting one for a while. I did buy a 6.5 horizontal shaft motor from them a few years ago (for $100), if the 11 and 13 are anything like it, then its a good engine, my 6.5 has a lot of power. its pretty quiet too, just like a honda.

The 420's are sold as 16hp. The cranks are plenty strong if you don't offset stroke them. On a pulling tractor use a girdle on them for sure!

The cranks i have had done from a very reputable company don't last 10-15 races, they break where expected. Must be the hp difference from 1 to mine!

But, at some point many prefer to have reliable hp versus peak hp. I know I don't build the most hp, but mine survive.
You never win a race by focusing on one aspect of the race!  Motor isn't everything, but you better have a good one!  Chassis too!  But remember, a driver can take a slow machine and make it faster!  I may not have/be the best of any of these but I'm trying!
