I know! But imaging to bore it out to fit a roller lifter! But I cant have a thick roller lifter! I think anywhere under .500 diameter will work I suppose but I'll double check how much room I have for the lifters in the block! Maybe a motorcycle roller lifters will work?

99% of bikes are overhead valve. If you want big hp from a gx390 you can get ahold of Mike Clements. He builds some over the top 390's. He also sells parts. He has told me of 50hp 390's. They are set on kill and dont las long. 35-40hp is a long living engine according to him. As far as the roller lifter. I wouldnt waste my time. There are other areas to look to get hp. Make it breathe and it will make hp.

I think you're going to come to find out that Mike is no longer in  business. I believe he sold out to Carlson racing engines.

Last I heard he had moved from NC to Florida. I did not think he was completely out of business. It kind of looks like he liqudated some of his old inventory.

An e-mail reply from Mike:

on,
No, we are not closing shop at all. I have just reached the point to where I would like to slow down a bit from the daily grind of machining engine components and working 12 to 16 hour days. Looks like a good friend of mine for many years is going to purchase my business and I will continue to help it on it's daily operations...... we intend to ramp up the business and come out with some new and better products. It is all going on right now. So, within a few weeks, we should have some good solid news as to the new direction we are taking this business. You can bet though, there will always be room for more and more race parts for many varieties of engines.
   thanks,
           Mike

Ok I have a idea! What if I just made a lifter that is a ballpoint style? Like a pen! It's small, multi deriectional, light weight, less friction and simple to make!

the lifter needs more contact on the cam to avoid wearing a groove or worse on the cam!

Yeah that's true! I winder if I get a chevy small block roller lifters and turn it down to a smaller diameter where it's enough that I can bore out the lifter bore.
