I just submitted my entry to the Red Bull Soapbox Race this year in L.A. it will be the only one this year in our U.S.of A. You have to u-tube this it looks fun as heck !!!  and yes I will sport a mower of sorts with a custom 'y' chassis that I am developing based on Bobby Cleveland's record holder scheme.Worlds fastest non-engine mower though. need some ideas on reducing drag concerning tires,I was thinking about making some custom centerline grooved slicks but cornering and traction is of concern.turfmasters I think would grab TOO much on asphalt so I was thinking 6" front and back,a pivoting front axle with a shock(wishbone crossover) and rigid rear axle w/ one disc. 175 lb. gvw - driver should be easy. the tires are the perplexing part any ideas ???? I was thinking about crowning some slicks but do they have enough meat to custom shave them?

good idea al handeling is a concern especially if they have chicanes! if you watch the footage some are running bicycle wheels and end up eating crow when they go hard into a turn.and that 'burm' made of metal is gonna be tricky too...can't wait.

there is a method to my madness...I will also bring some of my REAL mowers with me in hopes of talking to Red Bull and try and get them onboard with the lawnmower racing scene.If I could get some kind of national sponsership program going with them who knows what could happen.They put out major coin at every event they do! PLUS all the media that follows them......

Awesome method to your madness. Please post the results of your "sponsorship hunt". Don't need the nitty gritty details, but how you did would be nice. Everyone could benefit from some more sponsorship techniques.. CHUCK

we here are the west coast AKA 'the other side of the world', are hindered a bit because of the lack of mower racing popularity.that is why people like bob newman and myself along with others try and go out to many different venues to promote us as a whole.it don't matter which group you are affiliated with,it all comes down to lawnmower racing period....
Yes I will share any tips I have with anyone at any time about promoting, it kinda all boils down to getting creative and having enthusiasm in what you want to do to have fun.
Yes this is a stupid kind of race,and actually you get more attention if you have a big crash(this I intend not to do !)but exposure and representation is what it's all about.
I really want to build a first class racer for this competition that will represent our sport accordingly.There are too many out there that put a misconception on our sport,this needs to end.
So just go out and show them what REAL mower racing is about,fun and friends with alot of safety thrown in.

I took mine to the first annual Adult Soap Box Derby in Marble Falls, TX last year.  Had to remove the motor cause they thought it might be an unfair advantage.  Without the motor, it weighed in at the maximum limit.  Didn't do well in the derby, but got lots of attention at the pit party the night before.  Got one new racer building his mower right now and got a couple of contacts for races this year, including one at a local winery.  That would be way too cool, races and wine afterwards.

yeah our weight limit is 175 - the driver so I think with the custom chassis I'm designing I should have no problem.gonna test it first to see if lighter is better then try it with some weights.spinning out I don't think is gonna be a prob,it's gonna be maintaining maximum speed and being able to get through the chicanes without takeing hay samples.plus the jumps !!!

trying to figure out if I should run a straight rear axle or go independent on the rears....think it might make it a little squirrely ????? any ideas..... remember the chicanes are kinda tight.plus I need (a) brakes.
