Ill be able to run up to a 74 tooth and still have enough clearance. Also I'm gonna run a honda gx390(probably a clone) and a cent clutch unless I can get paul to give me some of that conversion magic he uses on the vert shafts

gonna start on the front axle now. using 1.5"x1.5" 3/16" wall box tubing. got a set of end plates from the local kart shop for free, well at least no money anyways. im not going to start cutting the axle until i get the spindles and all built so that i have an exact width.

they use a L block with a  single heim up top with a spherical bearing below. i will be building the L blocks and spindles over the next couple of days. im looking for some advice on how to build my spindles. how much better is it to have the spindles with bearings? next is probably a really dumb question. could i use a 1" bolt for a king pin and welt the spindle shaft directly to it? my thinking on this is the heims would act as the bearings. it makes sence in my head just dont know the practicality of it.  also i would like to add front brakes in the future would it be better to build the spindles to the length needed with brakes or just rebuild in the future. im worried about how much i would have to space out the hub on the inside until the brakes are installed.  also the reason i am building all of these parts is not just to cut down on the money but its so much more fun to know that you put it all together from nothing.   i like the spindles jerb built in his supermod build and that's what i am leaning towards as of now.

Using the heims is good, til they get locked up with grit, and then you think the belt came off
the power steering. Some kind of bushing that you can lube or bearings would be better.

I have built both ways, and bearings feels like a Cadillac, compared to just heims, or
a bushing.

i went out and picked up some stuff to start building my spindles

a 1 and 3/8" ID hub a 5/8" x6" grade 8 bolt and some 5/8" bearings and a castellated nut

cut the head off of the bolt at 10*

i then ground a perfectly flat and square area on the side of the hub to weld my bolt to. measured it all out and welded  it up.

here it is all welded up just before it went into the scrap pile. i dont feel that i got good enough penetration into the hub and don't want to test it. i will be rebuilding it tomorrow and hopefully have something for my efforts.

i havetried quite a few waysto get a good spindle built but keep falling short. angles are coming out fine but everything else is turning to crap. i think im gonna just go with the ec axle. it will cost me less than it does to buy the parts to build it

Sometimes what appears to be simple takes alot more figurin' than workin'!
I have had alot of guys ask me about making parts like hubs and spindles, I always tell them they cannot afford me, lol.
I am lucky to have open OT, I can just put a couple extra hours in and buy most parts cheaper than I can make them, especially those "Your life is riding on them" parts!

kart spindles work well real well... can be found used or new or build your own sets... have done all three and they all work just fine... never had any issues with welds i got to say the 1 inch hub and bearing i think is a tad overkill lol... all i and close friends all use half inch heims and bolts with 1/2 kart spindles with bearings and have never had a problem
There's somethin' in the works...

Buy the EC axle. You won't be disappointed!  Just bolt in or weld in!

Rooster Jumped my mower prolly 8 ft high landing square flatten rims bent one heim joint bent frame and the axle is on my new mower still being used it was an ec axle using all the 1/2 heims. Ifit can survive that it will survive most anything on the track.
