my f/x build
« on: January 01, 2011, 03:55:38 pm »
starting over fresh. im going to build to uslmra rules. here is what i have so far.

here is the first portion of the chassis

here is the chassis completed. it measures 41.5" x 13.5". built out of 1.25" box tubing with 3/16" walls.

added the bearing mounts

and with the cassette in

ride height on the rear will be 4.25"

gonna take my time with this build and really research before i build upwards.
what do you mean it doesn't fit, did you use the hammer?

In the last 2 pics you put up I noticed that it looks like the frame behind the cassette mounts bends up at a little angle. I understand that it may just be the picture playing games with me. but if it is actually angled is there a reason for it?
If mowers are a habit then I need an intervention

got the seat bracket put on today. seat height is 9" above frame

here it is with seat sitting on it.

im waiting to add cross braces to the chassis until i know were the engine will sit so that it can be bolted to them. on the inside of the chassis you can still see red paint, thats because i got carried away and forgot to sand it down before i welded it. ill sandblast it once the build id done.

also can anyone tell me if the bar in the pic below is structural or not once its all tied in. ive seen a lot of the builds having this bar in roughly the same position and im not sure why. pic is from squidds f/x build

what do you mean it doesn't fit, did you use the hammer?

Its structural "if" you have the bar in front of it angled to the LF corner by spindle mount, and the one behind it angled down to bearing carrier

was it intentionally added for support or as a bonus?  i dont want to bend my chassis first day out, should it be added in?

I would put it in. It will make it much more rigid.  Easier to set a rigid chassis up.

I added all three on purpose and disguised the ladder frame by wraping it in aluminum and calling it my chain guard...

i also added a little nub for the seat mount. it is 1/4" lower than were it mounts so that it will pull down on the back of the seat.

Yes its the mustang. It had a misfortunate accident. My buddy hauls scrap iron and he took that also when I was not at home. I set it a little to close to the pile. Still got the tins though
