Very true, BUT at the same time SOME gaskets are damaged beyond use IF they are bent or kinked.. And the lil piece of cardboard the oem Biggs use in their gasket kits does not fully protect the contents. I have seen extreme cases though somtimes.

You also have to do your research when buying online. Some sellers do still offer free shipping , and still have the best pricing. It just takes some extra time to locate the better deal sometimes.
Also,   CONGRATULATIONS  on becoming a ARC authorized dealer !

The best scenario is buying big quanatees, It costs the same to drive or fly to cali if its a couple gaskets or if its a big ole box with lots of parts. Much easier to spread the cost.

That's my plan.
Something I see not mentioned is the boxes and packing materials, sure some used boxes get used and old news papers also.
An example we sent a 1.75 tilly part to California first of the week it costs them 12.50 to get that part. BUT like the customer said he cannot get it local. So whats he do!!! It sucks the cost of everything now days SUCK!!!
I add $1 to each of my ebay sales to cover the cost of shipping materials & trips to the post office & use Priority Mail where the boxes are free for small light weight items. If you print the postage online, you get free tracking.

Has any dealers ever checked on US Postal service flat rate boxes. You couldn't ship everything, but some things you could. I shipped some parts using it and it cost me $5.95 w/insurance and ups and fedex wanted like $15-$20. the parts where delivered in 2 days.

My brother runs abn online jep parts store. He sells alot on E-bay...
Recently his "discoount" for sellers charges on e-bay was dropped from 20% to 5%, because he has had 3 complaints about shipping and handling charges in the last 18 months!
Does it matter that he generally ships at $1 below actual costs of shipping? NO
Ebay does not let the seller refute the claims...

On EBAY, if your not the cheapest, you do not sell! He has lost alot of sales to guys who had the price at $1 less than his, but shipping at $5 more!

Personally, I buy from a reputable dealer, I pay what he charges and get what I want without hassles! I hope he is making money, so he will still be in business next time I need a part!

ebay takes a % of the selling price but not the shipping costs so lots of them mark up the shipping so they don't have to pay ebay as much. I always look at the total price with shipping & won't buy from those that have inflated shipping charges. You are right about the ebay ratings for the shipping charges. Most buyers don't have any idea how much the shipping actually costs are & even if you charge actual charges, they still think you are charging too much. Wish they would come up with a better way of doing it. Unfortunately ebay is by far the biggest so they get by with more than they would if they had some competition.

Maybe not the same thing but we sell sand, gravel and crushed stone. A lot of the time a ton of sand will sell for 6 bucks a ton and the freight will be 12 bucks a ton. Freight is not cheap.

As a business major I have taken courses in marketing and the truth is people would much rather pay a higher price and see Free Shipping than pay the correct price and see $10.99 for shipping. Also, when it comes to handling a lot more goes into it than what meets the eye. Boxes, packing material, labor, paper, tape, gas, insurance on the delivery vehicle, etc. I dont mind paying a couple of dollars for handling when I am buying part (especially big ones), because I know first hand how much work it is. I too own a small business. We make custom acrylic duck calls and it takes on average 4 hours to make a custom call and we only charge $80 for the entire thing. If you look into how expensive the materials are too make them you will understand. The world revolves around money, like it or not. And peoples time is not cheap.

By the way, Congrats Bob!

Not saying your wrong, just that that has not been the experience he has had!

Yup!!
Which is why the person doing it the "honest" way cannot compete! The higher the priced item, the more this is true!

So how about a Grand Opening sale Bob!!
Lol...congrats and Good luck!

I stopped by the UPS store to pick up shipping materials just before Xmas....Tape, boxes, bubble wrap, packing peanuts ect............$89.00.   OUCH!.

So, there is the explanation of your "B.S." handling charge.  That stuff does not grow on trees.

Now I recycle every box I get and the packing material....If you notice, EC & some others, already does this to cut down on the overall shipping cost.
