Hey I'm kinda curious as to how you're doing the drive line setup on that machine. Since the axle is flipped over you would in theory have one forward gear and multiple reverse gears, correct? I'm intrigued as to how you would combat that problem (the gears are turning in my head - this could be good for a different application that I'm thinking of).

If it's flipped over yes...but then if you "spin it around" to get in front of the motor...it should turn the right way again...

So far I have a sweet OHC 6.5 Honda motor thats very light, a peerless transaxle (small single speed F-N-R),

i believe its only a 2 speed transaxel ;)

It now has steering.

Squidd is right, since it's flipped and spun, forward is still forward. But matt is also right, it's only a 1 speed transaxle anyways, so it would'nt matter.

ya know i never thought about flipping and spinning a transaxle. ive been wanting to lower the rear on my Case but i dont have the means to make a jack shaft, but couldnt you just flip and spin the transaxle and rasie it up into the frame just enough so you could still use your stock cluch and everything? sounds like it would work to me, only problem being would it burn the transaxle yup that way at the high speeds?

i love this whole powerwheels 4 wheeler thing, looks to be coming along GREAT!! i was gunna make somethin like georges jeep out of a big foot till im brother melted the whole thing....now all i have is a pink barbie corvette :-| :worried:

keep the pics comin on the progress of the built, its great!!

You would need to custom modify the shifter and brake linkage. Maybe the stock clutch system would work with out changes, but I would'nt count on it. You'll need a welder and fab tools.

I think the biggest problem with longevity with that type setup (flip) is that the gear box is usually set to hold the gears in the lube and "splash" up on other moveing parts...

Depending on the makeup of the particular transaxle...the lube may not be covering the proper parts, the splash effect may not cover the parts that are "now" exposed...lube may leak out of shifter and other areas that were not set up to be submerged...

Maybe a heavier grease is the answer, but that doesn't usually hold up to extream running...

yea flipping the tranny is to prone to problems, so why dont you just set it up like this?: raise the tranny up into the frame as usual for lowering it, then make it so the belt from the engine goes to the bottom of a double pulley (the kind that have a pulley on top and the bottom) thats mounted in the middle, then have the belt from the transaxle go to the top pulley on the double pulley. then you shouldnt have any problems! the setup would be kinda like the vari-drive setup on a MTD, but instead of the main center pulley moving forward and backward to tighten up the belt, you can just use your existing clutch on the belt that goes from the engine pulley to the double pulley. hope you take my idea into concideration, because i've been planning to do that to my Ford mower for my future IMOW build with it.
Gotta love a good 'ol Briggs Flathead!

squidd, the transaxle half's, top and bottom are basicly identical, same characteristics on both halfs. So I dont see any problems with flipping it up side down as far as lubercation goes. But if the grease get's thin, I could see the grease try to ooze out of the shifter and input shafts. The transaxle came with thick grease and I'm gonna continue to use thick grease, if grease leaking out of the shafts become a problem, I'll deal with it then. It's going to see very light use, a 40-60lb kid over-driven to a mild 10mph.

TheMowinCuban, There are a few reason's why I did'nt go the jack shaft route. Space, it's very short and there is hardly enough room with out one. It need's to be as simple as possible to keep the weight down, the lighter the safer. And from my experience the less complacated I can make it, the less that can go wrong and fail.

I'm definitely going to be following this build, as my girlfriend's kid has the same power wheels ATV, and I definately have the spare parts for this. I might find a use for that 8HP after all! :D

lmao wow, im suprised! no one had anything to say about the pink barbie 'vette...suprising! :woo:

anyway, let us know how the transaxle turned upsidedown like that runs would ya? it might be the next easiest way to lowering a transaxle mower with running a jackshaft.

Why not just paint it black with flames, mount it on a custom frame, Put in a 25hp motor, lift it two foot off the ground, and put 15inch tires all the way around. Once your dun drive it down main street. you would be the talk of the town. Also send pics
