'69 Huffy Sheraton A/P
« on: September 24, 2010, 03:22:16 am »
Just finished my A/P build. Hopefully I put the first pics on correctly. More to come.

Lambo

This is how it ended up. Once I get the other pics in order I'll show the whole build.

The tear down...

The deck was cut in two and the expanded metal was added in the middle of each, then the angle iron was added so it could be attached to the frame.

The frame was beefed up by inserting rectangular tubing in the channel of the frame. Cutouts were made for the axle. The nuts are welded on so I never need two wrenches-just a lock washer under the bolt. An access panel was also made in the rear for the battery.

Here's the welded nut side...

A better shot of the battery access...

Angle iron welded to the engine plate so it can then be welded to the frame.

Here is the test fit of the deck halves. Also at this point I began making the frame for the hood

Oh yeah- and I added my EC front end and rear axle...
Now I put the hood and fenders on and had to add some weight to the front end. I melted 14lbs of tire weights and poured them in a form that was the same dimensions as my front end and bolted it on.

OK- so I put it all together to see if it worked like I wanted it to. It ran fantastic. So then I tore it all back down to get it powder coated.  I'll start posting the "re-assembly" pics of it after I had that done. It shows how I did things a little closer up.

Looks like the Pro Techs from TSC might be a HiRun tires.
You never win a race by focusing on one aspect of the race!  Motor isn't everything, but you better have a good one!  Chassis too!  But remember, a driver can take a slow machine and make it faster!  I may not have/be the best of any of these but I'm trying!

Turf Trac 13 ".  The tranny is stock but I had it cryo'd for less than $100 . A guy I work with races / modifies Suzuki street bikes that race around the U.S. They cryogenically treat their gearboxes and have not had a failure yet. Besides, I know that it may go out so I made sure there was room for a  700 in there before I welded everything in place.
OK. started with the clutch assembly first.

Now the front end...

oops..had a few more of the clutch.

Rear axle...

Wheels / tires...

Disc Brake

Engine-not "built" yet. This one just has some porting and carb work done. Runs great though. It will definitely be o.k for some indoor racing this winter until I get the other engine done.

Battery tray that sits right above the rear axle. Also a few close-ups of the EC front end.

Battery / solenoid in.

Hood frame. I ran wiring through the framework and will be surrounded by rubber grommets on their way in and out

I'll post the final ones later..I'm at work so I should probably go do some

Rooster, if you look close you can see its a 2 pully setup. he just has rollers on the flat side of the belt instead of a flat idler. I think myself it would be better if the idler was on the outside pushing in. Puts more wrap around the pullies.  I would change the flat idler to a "V" idler on the inside of the belt though. Never had good luck with that. Also, add another spacer to the bottom of the crank shaft and put a big washer and a bolt in it. Thats wont stay on too long like that.

That short of belt, almost looks to me like it would be better off without the inside pulley?
