« on: August 16, 2010, 10:59:32 pm »
Does anyone know the FRAM oil filter number for this engine? No one around me seems to be able to cross reference it.

Don't know the fram number but the JD number is AM107423. Maybe they can cross reference it.

Personally I would not run a Fram on my equipment, my grass mower or my racing mower. I have found that there is not as much filtering material in the filter, I would spend the extra couple dollars and buy the OEM filter. Just my opinion.

Kawasaki  FB460v, FC420v, FC540V, FH601V, FH641V ,FH681V, FH721V  & many others -  Oil Filters:

Kawasaki OEM 49065-2078

John Deere AM107423

Fram PH4967

The Kawasaki OEM of the three, has better filter media,  as Dennis Mentioned above.

However, some engines do not have oil filters so, even the lesser of three is better than none.

I have used all three with no problems. I prefer to use a better flow filter because all of the above mentioned Kawasaki engines have an internal oil pumps.  The Fram seems to have better flow, but less media. It also boils down to who Kawasaki and Deere decides to have thier filters made by. I have seen
fluctuations in quality.

If you change the oil after every race as should be done on a race motor filter quality is not as important as if you were leaving the oil in for a season. I usethe WALMART 4967 on every mower I have with an oil filter. Cheap and worksjust fine considering I change oil as said above.

Thanks again everyone. George, I change after every race and am using synthetic. I agree fully with you.
With the amount of oil these engines hold it's not a big deal.

Will check into the Walmart 4967, been using the fram 4967 with NO issues.
Agreed, if you change the oil frequently, probably don't need a filter. Definitly change oil when it's warmed up.
I change the filter every other time I change oil.

Speaking of Walmart, I could not resist trying thier Fully Synthetic "Tech" brand oil. It's less than $4 a qt.
That almost seems scary(too cheap?)
Have not tried it in the twin yet, but, it is in everything else including the home domestic small engines.
No problems so far. Very happy with the price.

How do they sell it so cheap?   I says "Fully Synthetic", and they have "Synthetic Blends" too.
What could it be missing?

Can there be that much of a mark up on this snyth oil?......I have been using Mobil-One Synth in all my cars and mowers....I swear by the stuff. I have some Amsoil too that I use sparingly-$$$$. That is really good stuff.

My cousin sell oil. No name oil.  Mag 1 is their house brand. They make oil for several "names". Cheeper oil has less additives in it.  The additives is what makes the oil last longer, not break down and make it "slick". I ran amsoil for a long time. Now running Mobil 1. Same thing just got a deal on it!

I run my oil in my twin 2 to 3 races as I'm using good stuff and it doesn't run as hot as the singles. I change them every race still.

So if you run Amsoil and change your oil after every race, are you just throwing your money down the drain?  Or into the winter season shop heating oil depending on where you live and how you heat your shop?

Well Said.

I am not so sure you really need to change(Amsoil) oil after every race. Amsoil Synth holds up to heat extremly well, does not breakdown as quick, and has very reputable lubrication properties. Just my opinion.

I think we run on too dusty and dirty of tracks to carry over week to week
