i should have saved my time i had to take back apart to put them back in, i may have the crank balanced over the winter, better yet build a briggs something u can get aftermarkit parts for.

my new tillotson should be in tomorrow hope for that and going to the 50 over pistion will raise the heart beat

could not find any timeing keys so what i been doing is removeing the key lap the crank and flywheel and advance timing tight with 1/2 inpact

Not sure about the FC420 I would like to build one for Mod-X yet, but the FB460 is pretty stout, we have one on a Super Stock and one on Sportsman, it is turning about 6500 or more, with couter weight in it. Almost 2 years and have not had an issue yet. Like George said, the carb is the weak link, the thing wants alot more fuel than that carb can supply when you put a bigger cam in it. I would think that the 420 and 540 should fall along the same lines.

i ran in mod x once when it was stock and gov still in it only adjusted to 4600rpms and stayed on the lead lap since then i took 40 off the head, port work, put a cam in it and cut the fins on the plastic fan down and adjust timeing and it got better but i just put a tillotson on it, in my home rules its is ok

took a little to get it adjust where i needed but it's much better :woo: feels as if i double my power

so i tore apart my donor fb540 tonight... it had a bad day while cutting grass but the crank is good still so im not that worried... my grandfather and i are going to see what we can to to balance it... (he has a crank balancer) im pretty excited about it... but i have to get a new cam cuz the one that was in it was snapped in half... if you ever had one of these apart you soon realize that it  would take a pretty good smack to bust one of those cams... about 3/4 inch shaft from end to end and you can see where the rod smacked it several times before it finnaly broke... the kaws are a real nice piece... not sure why the rod broke it wasnt starved for oil nothing in it is galded must have been a weak casting... but none the less does anyone think you could weld on the top of the piston to fill in the dish?

Hey Grubby I will build any of them if I like the looks of it!!!!! I have a strong kohler as I speak,   come get ya some!!!!!!!!!!

Chad, to solve your piston problem you would need to flattop the piston in a lathe and then add the length to the billet rod you need to make anyway.  Do you have another cam?
