700 shifting????
« on: August 08, 2010, 12:47:28 am »
Hey guys just changed to a 700. Got a question on dailing it in. Thanks in advance for the help.

When I am trying to shift my 700 from neutral to my race gear with the clutch pressed in, the transmission goes into gear hard and wants to start moving.

Question?
I should be able to shift to the gear that I race in with the clutch pressed in and stay stationary until I start to release then clutch correct?

I was thinking that maybe my belt is to tight but it looks loose. Any thoughts would help. Thanks
Kevin

Your right. It is a belt issue. Sounds like your belt is not totally disengaging. Mine does this when I put a new belt on or don't have enough clutch pedal travel to pull the clutch all the way out. This can also happen if th belt gets hot and sticky

too loose may be correct. the problem may be that you need belt guides so that you put the 'loose' in the right area. belt guides will help keep the belt in the same place and when clutch is pressed it only loosens at the pulleys.

Mine does the same thing.. With it running I go to put it in gear the mower will jump .. I've done all I can to get it to stop but it still does it... 1" longer belt made the clutch travel more to where when it pushed in the clutch it strait  took the guides off the front of the pulley but left the side ones on.. Still will not stop!!

I took the mower out today for a drive cuz i will not get to ride it for a while (surgery) an the shifter keys broke!! This is the 2nd time so I'm all ears on this topic lol

I am thinking belt guides as well. I would like to see a pic of your belt, with the clutch engaged.

Thanks guys, I will try to make some adjustments to my belt guides and see if it works.

Any one know if there is some good pictures on the forum that would give good placemnet of belt guides? I will take look at the build section and see if I can get more info as well. But if you see one can you please send me the post.

I also tried a longer belt and it was really loose.

I will work on getting a picture. I will need to find some help to lift it up to take a pic. Thanks again.

George's build 07 shows very good placement.

Thanks Birdman

I just was looking at that as well. Very nice work that George does. Bolt and nut idea looks real good and straight forward as well as user friendly when changing belts out.

By George's post I need to change the placement of my belt guides. I will still work on a pic.

Thanks again.

The springing action of the belt sits on the bolts and holds the belt in place,
it is always best to get those on there before the paint, so there is no
blistering of good paint.
