Alright. i am going to be running a 2004 ch18s, (new in box). I am just curious what this engines weakness are and what rpm they can take. I am expecting to run it aroud 7000rpm if the engine will let me. Id like to know what breaksin these motor at around what rpms.

Get rid of the balance shaft. I dont know about the horizontal, but on my CV15 the balance shaft drives the oil pump, so we just machined the counterweights off.

ive never had any experience with the v-twin kohler engines. so im not sure what kind of tolerances it has to rpm's and what not.  i do know th k series engines are unsafe at anything over about 4000 rpm's due to the cast iron flywheel.

i would suggest an aluminum flywheel, and possibly rods.  i can almost guarantee youll need to get some stiffer springs for the valves.  a cam will help you reach that 7000 rpm target.

www.midwestsupercub.net sales tons of parts for the kohler engines. most of their parts are for the k series singles, but they also have a section for the v-twins.
