Ok so it's a custom frame? What kind of clutch to you plan to use? On a standard mower build I'd say at least 24 to 30 inches from centerline of crank to centerline of tranny input shaft so that you will have room for the clutch to work properly.

Ok at least 24 to 30 inches. Preferably at around 30 I'd say.

Maybe I misinterpreted what you were saying Les. I thought maybe you were limited on space. I do agree with Wheelhorse if you have plenty of room put it to where it fits but if space is limited, I'd say you need at least a minimal 24 to 30 inches between crank and tranny shafts. You may end up with more than 30 inches between the shafts but no biggie. Just pay attention not to get too close to the rear axle so that you will still have room to change sprockets and run a chain tensioner.

I don't know if your rules allow it but I put mine on the Left running board for left side bias.
