#3 offset
« on: April 08, 2010, 07:55:12 pm »
I have an 8 horse Briggs, basically stock, with the exception of a Walbro carb, 7hp head and some porting on the intake. I put a #3 offset flywheel key in it and it felt like i couldn't get the RPM's up. I ended up putting the stock one back in and it performed better. Any ideas?

Due to little unconsitencies on machine work, not everything is exactly where it should be, Most production things have a plus or  minus tolerance, if your crank key cut was on one end of the scale and your flywheel cut was at the other, it would add up to the timing being way off. Do your self a favor, buy or borrow a degree wheel and check your timing off that, shoot for 30 before  top dead center. Plenty of post on here on how to do it.

The 7hp head is shallower in the valve "pocket". Basically bumps up the compression.
