Crazy Racers Outlaw Reassembly
« on: April 05, 2010, 01:44:14 pm »
I repainted my mower this year, and since I enjoy looking at everyone else's build pictures, thought I would share mine. Our chassis rules are a bit more lax than most every other club as we can build our own from scratch. But anyhow, here are some pictures of what I got done last night, hope you all enjoy.

Bare Frame.

Axles and steering assembled, wheels and tires installed.

No kiddin'.

I have a question, why so wide with the front bar? I ain't harshin', just curious as why so wide.

And no folks, this isn't open season on why or why not to have bumpers. It's their rules.

i think the wide front bumper is a good idea because it totally prevents tire climbing and it will help protect your spindles in case of a crash, but on the flip side, it could also get tangled in the rear bumper of another mowchine.

Yep.

Yes, that is why alot of groups who have bumpers do not let them extend past the centerline of the tire.
I was just wonderin'.

turftracracer19 hit it square on the head, we have very few mowers climb on top of one another. The bumpers are pretty much uniform as we have specific sizes that they must be, cuts down on them getting tangled up. Once in awhile a front bumper does get in between the rear tire and rear bumper, but not very often.

Thank you. No tubing bender, I had a welding shop bend the front and rear bumpers as well as the main frame rails. Otherwise, I bent everything using an acetylene torch.

I got the gearbox, chain tensioners, and rear sprocket all together and aligned tonight. Don't worry, there will be chain guards in place before I go racing. Also set the toe, caster, and camber of the front end.

I got some more work done on the mower today, I've got the engine in, most of the wiring run, and almost all of the little misc. pieces bolted on. Mostly now just waiting for my engine shroud to get painted and I can wrap up the rest of the mechanicals.

My fancy new Ryker Racing equal-length header. Fits right on Ryan, nice job.

Nice looking mower. Great frame and well designed.

I have a quesion for you. Your primary chain drive from engine to ragb, how do you keep it from fallen off? How do you adjus it for tension? I thought about doing this on one, but talk myself out of it. I ran a belt drive instead. Chain drive would take away any slipping.

I'm glad the header fit, sending me your old one sure helped. Nice machine, can't wait to hear it run myself.

To keep the chain on, really all you need to do is keep it fairly tight. For my tensioner I use a "skateboard wheel" that I made out of aluminum. It is just mounted on a slot at an angle and I just slide it to where it needs to be. I will take a picture of the system one I get it all together.

Everything is together on the mower now except the primary chain drive off of the clutch and I need to weld an EGT bung on my exhaust pipe. Then just need to get sponsor decals cut. Does anyone know if you can get engine decals from Briggs for engines that are no longer in production? I would kind of like to get a 12 hp decal for the engine, that sure would make people wonder.  ;)

I have heard them called marine plugs.... and I think a few other names on here.
Ok, my bad, the one I was thinking of was marine grade Ramsey quick connect terminals.
