Hey I just registered to correct this thread. Very old thread I know, but it came up in my searches many times, misleading me to order the wrong part number, and I don't want it to happen to anyone else. Nice forum anyway, so I might just stay in touch.
In short:
conrod 692419 has crank pin 1.50", piston pin 0.80"
conrod 494504 has crank pin 1.25", piston pin 0.80"
These 2 links confirm the crank pin diameters:

I found out the hard way that your engine might not conform.
Long version: So I have a series 28 OHV (model 287707 1272-E1 code 990913ZE). I know the engine is all original and never been repaired.
The Briggs & Stratton online part finder tells you that after Code Date 98063000 use conrod 692419 so that's what I ordered. I knew my crank and piston pin diameters were 1.25" and 0.80" and didn't think of checking that part # 692419 was the same. I assumed, influenced by threads like this one, that 692419 was just an updated stronger version of 494504. It turned out it is not, and I wasted time and money exchanging the wrongly ordered part. And don't be discouraged by the parts finder telling you that conrod 494504 is only for L head models, it is also for OHV models if you happen to have the 1.25" crank pin.
