How much space is enough
« on: January 18, 2010, 11:06:03 am »
I am mounting my MCP brake system to my mower and their doesn't seem to be much room. I have approx. 1/8" (.125) clearance between the tire rim and the caliper. It seems like it is awful close to the brake line fitting as well. Is their a thinner MCP brake caliper that will work. I have adjusted everything that their is I cannot get anymore space. I am using a Peerless 600 transaxle with a 3/4" solid axle with a Acme wheel adapter that Uses 1 1/4" adapter for the brake disk. I have the brake disk as far out on the adapter as it will go and as close to the frame as i can get it. Any Ideas other than using Flintstone brakes

I think you will be OK with an 1/8" clearance. I might have a little less than 1/8" clearance on my pro-x, between the caliper and the wheel. I ran it that way all last year and never had any problem. MCP makes a mini light caliper, but there is not much difference in width.

trust me, if ya seen mine you would think 1/8'' is quite a gap, mine is closer than that and have never had the rim hit the caliper, i wouldn't worry about it at all....

I had the same problem with the ACME 3/4 axle hub for mounting my brake rotor. I used cap screws to mount the brake cylinder and the head is even higher than a bolt. I got a piece of aluminum and machined it to make a spacer to place the disc farther out from the hub. This gave me a little extra room. Ran last season with no problems.
