7hp... govener
« on: September 18, 2006, 08:34:46 pm »
Well, yesterday i picked up a free 1970 wheel horse commando 7 3speed.  i plan to get into racing but want to know what i can do to get more out of this motor.  i want to mill the head and advance timing and maybe run alcohol but all in due time.  first i need to find out how to remove the govener.  ive searched but really dont see anything specific.  now today i played around with it some.  whatever i did, i messed something up.  seems like it is dumping fuel into the carb and the only way to control RPM's is to use the choke butterfly.  which is fine, except it revs too high, i think... spits sparks and a little flame... i just dont want to blow it up on day 2...  what can i do to have a decent RPM range and keep it in range to stop myself from grenading it.

Thanks, Adam C
