Fuel pumps are gerotors, not suited very well to thick oil (viscosity is much greater than gas). I am taking all the stock oil pump stuff out except the eccentric on the cam, I may machine that off also. Each of the two I tore down had broken a diferent peice of the pump, I can't afford to let any of that stuff float around in there. Just squirting the rod journal will proablly be all thats needed. The Briggs oil pump just slings it around and the crank and the piston pulses seem to do a pretty good job of getting it everywhere. I have never lost Biggs rod to oil failure yet. My OHV's seem to do fine getting the oil up to and leaking out of the valve cover, a long way from the crank. The pump I'm useing is from Speed Engineering, it's pricey and I have not tested this yet.
