If nothing else at least replace the rod with a new stock rod if a billet rod is not available. I had one of these engines on a grasscutter and the rod broke while cutting grass and needless to say destroyed the engine.

The oil pump you like is junk-torn two of these down in the past month and both had broken the pump and one took out the oil sump. Know also that there are two different cranks for the 10hp and only one takes the ARC flywheel. A way around the weak oil pump is to buy a external oil pump-pricey though.

the oil pump is very simple, however it is designed to cut grass, not turn the RPN we subject them to. I figure if a stock mower can break it at 3600 RPM, I will destory it a t 6500.

What I (and other's) are doing is useing an external; oil pump. I found one used by the NASCAR boys that pumps 1 to 2 Gl. per minute and draws very little amp's. I have plumbed it into the pan (you have to weld the top hole in the pan where the oil goes in) useing the drain hole. when the engine is finished I plan to cut one up so I can see inside and watch where the oil will be sprayed. SHOULD work. This all looks good on paper, I do know there are people out there doing this.

Will know around spring if it works.

with you totally on the rpm thing, i wanna cut one up too!...i'm testing those cheap fuel pumps for longevity for oil..doesn't do well with cold oil but then you could plumb in a gauge.thinking about putting a strap across where the ball fits into the case to eliminate it popping out......it doesn,t have a very good tolerance tight wise to the cam this might eliminate it jamming?let me know if you decide on an autopsey.maybe i'll blow the crap out of this one and let you know????thanks...BUD...

Fuel pumps are gerotors, not suited very well to thick oil (viscosity is much greater than gas). I am taking all the stock oil pump stuff out except the eccentric on the cam, I may machine that off also. Each of the two I tore down had broken a diferent peice of the pump, I can't afford to let any of that stuff float around in there. Just squirting the rod journal will proablly be all thats needed. The Briggs oil pump just slings it around and the crank and the piston pulses seem to do a pretty good job of getting it everywhere. I have never lost Biggs rod to oil failure yet. My OHV's seem to do fine getting the oil up to and leaking out of the valve cover, a long way from the crank. The pump I'm useing is from Speed Engineering, it's pricey and I have not tested this yet.
