I have only replaced 4 coils on opposed twins in my 12 years working on them. And it wasn't the coil that took them out its was heat buildup from grass clippings...just my I've serviced plenty of Briggs engines single, ohv, twins that were over 15 years old and never had coil problems.
Your one lucky dude I'd say, I have replaced more than that in half the years...
Back to your problem, what plugs are you using?
We had champions in, gave us the exact same problem, new coil no help, changed to NGK plugs and the problem went away...don't ask me why, just reporting the outcome..lol
I found the problem by laying a screwdriver across manifold to wire with plug in engine...engine would fire.
That tells me the champion plugs weren't grounding well!
