Junior Class Build
« on: October 24, 2009, 10:29:37 am »
Here is the beginning of my Daughter's new racer. Building it like an IMOW with a transaxle.

Sitting at 4.5 inches in the back

4 inches in the front.

This is going to be a cool looking racer.

Thanks to George for posting his 2007 build. It has helped a ton in this build. Already have the frame reinforced with 3/4" tubing and the dash supports with the bearings for the steering. Transaxle and front axle mounted. Next up is setting up the jackshaft and clutch.

Worked on it some more the last couple of days

Got the clutch made and mounted.

Made the pedal and linkage for the clutch.

Picked up the jackshaft parts.

Put the jackshaft in the chassis.

Got the tensioner made for the rear belt.

Got the steering figured out.

I will get some more pics up soon. Been busy with customer work and no time left to build. Oh well, I've got about 5 months of winter to build. One question I did have is the engine. Do you think a Briggs or Kawasaki would give the advantage. 8 to 1 ratio and governed at 3650. Been reading alot on the Kaw's and I do have a couple of them. Trying to use all the tricks to make it the best. Tallest tires allowed. Smooth transaxle. Thanks for the encouragement. Glenn

Finally had time to play with it.

Got the spindles made.

Made the tie rod and draglink. It steers now.

Front view.

Now on to the brakes. Got to make a hub to mount this cool rotor.

Master

and caliper
All for now.

The bearings are just normal Ag bearings from TSC with the 4 bolts flanges. Had them on my other racer for 1/2 the yaer and held up great.
Actually had time this weekend to do a little something.

Made some aluminum plates for the dash. Gotta polish them now.

Made the hub and got the caliper mounts made.

Reinforced the mounts.

I think it looks kinda cool.
Next up is the master cylinder and linkage. Stay tuned for more.

The racer has brakes!

Master mounted and bled.

Linkage up to the pedal.
Getting real close to tearing it all apart and start some bodywork. Glenn
