IMOW/Super Stock story
« on: September 30, 2009, 11:37:51 pm »
A neat feature story that I'd appreciate comments on is the IMOW/Super Stock division. I know at the us nationals, Pierece and one of the Sullivans raced the same machine in JP and IMOW. (And this thread was in the Coffee Shop, too). What's it like participating in so much back-and-forth racing?

Follow up question, what's a realistic ball park for a starter mower...?

I have more fun running my IMOW compared to my C/P because of the back and forth.  I have maybe $100 tops in the motor.

Jake runs his J/P and I use it in Super Stock. Jake helped build the mower from the ground up. Yopu see he raced it for several years in Kid Stock then it was converted in to a J/P and done on a budget. This machine is reigning 08 National J/P point champion 3rd in Super Stock, and leading both classes in 09. We have maybe 650.00 in this machine. Its lowered as a prepared ungoverned class would be widened and had the fully adjustable EC front axle. Uses a 820 transaxle with a jack shaft and a tired bone stock 14 ohv. Most everything with the exception fo front axle is of mower origin or fabfricated from stuff we had laying around which kept costs to a minimum. The real joy is us sharing this machine competition wise. We compare results all the time. He goes out and wins and then the pressure is on for me to do as well. He ribs me the most since he wins more then I do. But its what makes it all good its father and son doing something together sharing a machine, thoughts ideas and good quality time on a moderate budget. Don't get much better than that.

Nobody else races in this class?

How much is driver accountability a factor when racing wheel-to-wheel with 15 other mowers?

Other than the former IROC series, and current restrictor plate races, is there anything else close to this?

I Love My IMOW it's all on the drivers you got to be on it 110% one little error in a corner or if you let up the throttle for a aplit second they are around they dont make a mistake you will not get back around them.

Strategy strategy strategy! These classes aren't won in the feature race. They are won or you can have a good finish if you use a good strategy from the draw.

I have started in the back of a fast pack of 10 to 12 mowers several times and came out with a trophy. I have even pulled out a win or two.
