E.C copper headgasket Questions on trimming and re using
« on: September 22, 2009, 11:11:27 pm »
Hey well after runnign a few races this year and motor just not runnign like i figured it would i pulled my head off today and found out that i have been having  some head gaskets leaks. due to my own fault of not thinking. i used the E.C gasket on my 31 and didnt trim it and seems after some time pressure under the lip has forced its way out and nopt causing me some leaks so i have 3 questions.

1. Whats the best way to trim the gasket? i dont wanna go hacking away on it and ruin it. so figured id ask before hand

2. Should i clean it then reheat it then soak and quick cool it then scrub with a sos pad then reapply the copper coat like when i got it new or should i do something else?

3. Is it ok to coat the head and block light with the copper coat to help make sure i get a good seal?

sanding drum on a dremel or drill

yes do as though you would a new gasket

I never have coated anything but both sides of gasket.

I've always used silver spray paint on small block chevy's for drag racing and never had a problem.
This might work also on small engines.  8)

Why don't they make one just for the 31?, also the one for the OHV single needs a redesign, it's just to thin in the area between the cylinder and the lifter galley.

Havn't had any issues with the EC OHV copper ones. You cannot even get a true 28 anymore they only come as 31 or 33.

Ask briggs, you order a 28 stock gasket and they come stamped 31 or either 33.
