Kohler v-twin cam
« on: July 30, 2009, 05:07:32 pm »
I am wondering  what grind anyone is using on the command twin. you can pm me if you wish. I am working on a motor for the bp class.  With most of the profiles designed for pulling I am not quite sure what to use

Thanks Chuck

Chuck, We have one from Precision that is similar to their Cheetah Grind that pulls hard up through 7000 rpm.  We also have one from Lakota that was sold as a race grind.  I don't know what grind it is but its different than the pulling cams.  It seems to have a better bottom than the Precision Cam but runs out a little sooner.

Thanks Jack,   I have a #83 grind from Lakota, Its a little on the short side of duration, but I figured it would pull hard on the bottom end. I thought there were a few more guys running the Kohlers that would chime in. I guess not, anyway I appreciate your info.

does anyone have anything new they are willing to share on the twin command cams??? i want one with the power range focused on the lower rpm range, like stump pulling torque out of the corners and use gearing that will compliment it. if you dont want to post here, please pm me, i need to start planning for next year.

Small engines of seymour (greg hackman) works with mwsc on their twins and so far their pulling twins are unbeatable. Greg is also working with Midwest on racing cams too.

i read that vogel has "drop in" springs and retainers for use with stock length valves that will work with up to .500 lift roller cam? i am not sure which choice to go with on a cam set-up, as i am going to use billet wheel, and rods, with stock bore, and mildly ported heads. i am not looking for a screamer, but i really want torque in low rpm range. if vogel has a specific grind you have experience with or know which grind would be beneficial, please inform me. thanks, jim.

Yes , Vogel has the drop in springs and retainers for up to .500 lift with stk length valves, Call them and ask for the 252 stk altered profile or just ask Chuck for the same grind that he sold me!!!   He has sold several to other racers!

Hackman has a really nice flat tappet cam. 275/256. Great midrange cam 8000rpm is prolly all it will do if it will do that and make power. We run vogel stuff now. Roller cam and solid lifters. Vogel in my opinion has great pieces at great prices. I dont run there springs on the roller cams. We run small chevy springs from comp. But our engine turns 10k plus.
