Same Size Pulleys BIG or small???
« on: August 16, 2006, 05:33:11 pm »
I run an IMOW with a peerless 600 9:1 final drive, I currently have 6" pulleys on it front and rear and was wondering if I go to lets say 4.5" pulleys would I get a better hole shot out of corners or does it even make a diff when you are talking 1:1 ??? any help would be great.

Thanks to all who reply

1:1 is 1:1 so there won't be a speed or "torque" increase you could measure...

In this case, the larger pulley will have less "twist" or "bend" to the belt as it goes around than the smaller a so a "slight" benefit to friction loss is to be had..

Again, 6" to 4.5" is not that big a difference...so nothing you will feel in changing them...

Now if you were running 2" pulleys and went to 6" you might possibly be able to feel the difference...

Certainly belt "slippage" would be reduced...with more contact area on the pulley sheaves...
