You can't just short-couple a 90 fitting on it with hose? Just guessing here.

If you can't grasp the end with a set of vise grip pliers, run a tap into the fitting, leave the tap in and clamp the tap in a vise and gently tap the carb with something soft like a peice of wood. It should come on out.

I sometimes want to use a stainless braided line going into the carb. To do this I take a 1/8" NPT tap and cut about 3/8" off of it. TRhen I use a tap that has not been cut, tap into the carb as far as it will go, then use the "short" tap to finish the hole. Now I can run my SS line, looks cool and is veryu reliable. You could substiute a 1/8" barb fitting with a hose if you like

I saw a post on here somewhere that said you can also buy a replacement fitting that presses in from briggs. They come in straight and 90 degree.

This is an example of a standard taper tap, used for holes drilled completely through.

This a a bottom tap. Used for threading 'blind' holes.

I'm not saying that your method doesn't work, simply letting folks know that you can buy a purpose made tap instead of paying for one that you have to modify. By the way how are you cutting a tap? That material is so hard I have never had any luck in doing that, I always break them before I get it cut and then I have an uneven end that messes up the threads.

A whizzer or cut-off wheel will cut a tap. I don't think I've ever seen a bottom tap for pipe thread, not saying they don't make them, I just never heard of one. Pipe thread is tapered.

correct on both acount Old Goat, they cut very easy  with a metal cutting wheel such as a Metabo. pipe threads are indeed tapered, that's why you have to cut one as there are no "Bottom" taps for pipe threads. This really makes a neat instlation and looks good also.

I guess I should read a bit closer, I didn't note the NPT.  (Still good info for those that don't know anything about cutting threads) And while it is true that NPT (National Pipe Thread for those that didn't know) is tapered the taper is so small at the diameters you are using you could easily use NPS (National Pipe Straight) taps and fittings. And still get a very good seal, especially with a teflon seal. NPS taps are built about the same as a bottom tap however you do need a bit more room at the bottom of the hole to use them that way. By the way the taper is 1/16" per inch for NPT.

And for those that want more engineering specs on taps here is a good site to peruse.

http://www.newmantools.com/taps/styles.htm

Oh and I do want to express that I think it is great that people think outside the box and do things like cut off a tap to make it work. Backyard engineering is what makes this sport so fun. And sharing the information is so important too. Thanks for that input. And Tom I'm glad you got the help you needed.
