George, advice on rims/tires:
« on: July 30, 2006, 08:36:09 pm »
I am clueless as to the determination of how to match tires to rims.......For a BP build, (I know 6" in front, 8" in rear) What rim diameter do you run in the front, and rear? And what tire sizes would fit on each? I had seen the turfmaster 13x6.50x 6 and it looked like a good gripping tire.  Would this only fit on the front? Again, George, I am clueless so please be patient.  Thanks

ok well im not goerge but hey we all help each other out

now all u really need to know is what the numbers on the tire means

     13           x       6.50              x        6
overall height x overall tread width  x  rim diameter

then fit that to any size rim aslong as it is a 6'' diameter rim and your off

Matt is right on tire sizes but let me go a bit deeper. If you have a 13x6.5x6 tire it will work great on rims from 5 inch wide to 7.25 inch wide. How you say. Well most folks will run different widths for different feels in how the tire grips. For example a narrow rim like 5 inch with the 6.5 wide tire will narrow the tire up stand it up taller and allow the side walls to flex more. Gives it a somewhat of a looser feel with the sidewall flexing so much. Now for those that want a planted sure foot feel no wiggle you run it on a wider rim I personally use a 7.25 rim. gives a lower profile spread the tread out flatter and doesn't allow the side wall to flex as much. I like this feel and setup over anything else I have tried. As for tires on a BP it all a personal preference really. here is what I run I use a 13x6.5x6 car lisle turf master on a 7.25 wide rim up front. I use a car lisle 16x7.50x8 carlisle turf pro on 8x8 rim on the rear. I like the tires mounted on a rim 1/2 inch wider than the tire is. I like the look and the profile and most of all the feel it gives me. Again much is just a personal preference which fits your driver profile.

Thank you for your help. I went to the site where you purchased the rear rims that you have and this is what I found:

8 X 8 -.125 X 4/4 is this the rear rim that you have?  Also, I did not find the 7.25 rim that you have on the front on this site. What other dimensions go with that 7.25 rim so I may look for it?  Thanks in advance. Mike

I havn't seen any 7.25 rims listed anywhere lately, Go with a 7 inch wide. that would be a 6x7 front rim.

I checked ARC Racing, they carry the 8 X 8 rim, but not the 6 X 7 rim.  Any ideas where else to check?

Well my girlfrined don't mind, if that's any consolation... she just sorta cleans around things and leaves them alone, when she's over.

That help any?!
