Topic: Axle ?

Trying to decide which axle I should go with 1 inch steel or 1 1/4 inch chrome alloy. I am looking at the tubular 1 1/4 inch axles. Which wall thickness is best? Thanks for your replies in advance.

1 1/4 Chrome Moly, you can straighten the chrome moly if you bend it.. and it is lighter and stronger

I also am curious to what size thickness is prefered? Anybody run the black oxide finished 1020 steel axles?

most that use the 1 1/4'' chrome molly, use the .250'' wall tubing!! weigh about the same as a 1" solid shaft, but way stronger!

And easier to fix! I am a transaxle convert LOL. I haven't built a straight axle machine, but transaxles are a pain in the but to get apart after a hard hit to the axle! Took the last bent axle out in 7 pieces!

The tubes strength properties are much better than solid bar!
